关于电影《拯救大兵瑞恩》，不知多少人心中有和我一样的疑问：为什么8个人要去救一个人。

时隔近20年再看，心中竟少了那份纠结。原来，看懂一部电影，需要时间。

但，该有答案的，还是需要有答案。这次，我的答案是：“选择”。马歇尔选择送一个可怜母亲的儿子回家，米勒上尉选择袭击本来可以绕行的德军MG42机枪阵地，霍瓦特中士选择帮助瑞恩守桥……。每一个做出选择的人，都为自己的选择付出了代价；而也正是这一个一个的选择，就像蝴蝶效应一般，不仅决定了个人的命运，也决定了故事的结局。

在此摘录了各位角色的经典台词。透过这些台词，也许我们心中的种种疑问，便会有了各自的答案。

列兵李察·莱宾（Richard Reiben）的提问

机枪手Reiben，是8人小分队中最终幸存的2人之一。是他最先提出：“为什么要8个人冒着生命危险去救一个人”。军医韦德（Irwin Wade）说，“想想那个可怜家伙的母亲。”莱宾质疑：“谁没有母亲呢！”接着，列兵梅利（Mellish）质疑：“难道我们所有人都该死？”这时，米勒上尉（John H. Miller）给了我们他心中的答案：“我们都有需要执行的命令”。

Private Reiben: You wanna explain the math of this to me? I mean, where's the sense of risking the lives of the eight of us to save one guy?
Medic Wade: Reiben, think about the poor bastard's mother.
Private Reiben: Hey, Doc, I got a mother, all right? I mean, you got a mother. Sarge's got a mother. I mean, shit, I bet even the captain's got a mother.
Mellish: What the fuck is that supposed to mean, Corporal, huh? We're all supposed to die, is that it?
Captain Miller: We all have orders, and we have to follow'em. That supersedes everything, including your mothers.

米勒上尉决定袭击雷达站

其实不是很理解米勒上尉的决定。按照他的逻辑，这一行人的目的很简单，即：“有需要执行的命令。”但，袭击雷达站不是他们命令的内容。他们完全可以绕行。梅利的理由很充分：“考虑到我们此行的目的，这样做似乎会有不必要的风险。”米勒上尉的回答很简单：“我们的目的是赢得这场战争！”。

Mellish: I'm just saying, this seems like an unnecessary risk considering our objective, sir.
Captain Miller: Our objective is to win the war.

米勒上尉决定袭击的阵地，部署着威力强大的MG42通用机枪。据说在诺曼底奥马哈海滩战斗中，一挺MG42和一名年仅20岁的德军士兵，造成了美军2000人以上的伤亡。因此，米勒上尉的决定，最终只造成一名小分队成员的损失，实属万幸。

米勒上尉决定释放在雷达站的德军战俘

失去韦德，小分队的情绪都难以控制。而米勒上尉却决定释放肇事者：德军战俘。莱宾再次表示了质疑，并决定退出小分队。这里，米勒上尉讲述了自己的身世，并说出了自己的理由：“我觉得，每多杀一个人，我就离家越远。”

Captain Miller: You want to leave? You want to go off and fight the war? All right. All right. I won't stop you. I’ll even put in the paperwork. I just konw that every man I kill the farther away from home I feel.

列兵瑞恩（James Francis Ryan）拒绝和小分队离开

当米勒上尉说出小分队的任务，即瑞恩可以回家时，瑞恩拒绝了。“为什么我可以回家，而不是其他人？他们和我一样战斗！”米勒上尉的劝说很有合理性：“你让他们再送一面国旗给你妈妈时，说什么？”瑞恩：“那就告诉她，你们找到我时，我正和我仅有的兄弟们在一起。我不能抛弃他们。我相信她会理解的。我不能离开这座桥。”

Private Ryan: It doesn't make any sense, sir. Why? Why do I deserve to go? Why not any of these guys? They all fought just as hard as me.
Captain Miller: Is that what they're suppose to tell your mother when they send her another folded American flag?
Private Ryan: Tell her that when you found me I was here and I was with the only brothers that I have left and that there was no way I was gonna desert them. I think she'll understand that. There's no way I'm leaving this bridge.

霍瓦特中士（Mike Horvath）决定留下来和瑞恩一起守桥

瑞恩拒绝了回家的特权。因此，米勒上尉和霍瓦特中士讨论小分队下一步的打算。霍瓦特说：“我们可以留下他然后回家。但，如果奇迹发生了呢。那么有一天，当我们回头来看时，拯救大兵瑞恩将是这场战争中，最正确的一件事。如果我们这么做了，我们才都有了回家的资格。”

Sergeant Horvath: I don't know. Part of me thinks the kid's right. He asks what he's done to deserve this. He wants to stay here, fine. Let's leave him and go home. But then another part of me thinks, what if by some miracle we stay, then actually make it out of here. Someday we might look back on this and decide that saving Private Ryan was the one decent thing we were able to pull out of this whole godawful, shitty mess. Like you said, Captain, maybe we do that, we all earn the right to go home.

老年的瑞恩带全家一起去米勒上尉的墓

影片以老年瑞恩的回忆开始，以瑞恩对米勒上尉的告白结束：“我努力把我的人生过得最好。我希望，至少在你眼中，我没有辜负你们所有人为我所做的一切”。

Old James Ryan: My family is with me today.They wanted to come with me. To be honest with you,I wasn't sure how I'd feel coming back here.Every day I think about what you said to me that day on the bridge. I tried to live my life the best that I could. I hope that was enough. I hope that, at least in your eyes, I've earned what all of you have done for me.
